05-18.10 - Just returned from The Wonderfest Convention in Kentucky and I had a blast. The people there treated all of us with the utmost respect making it seem more like a family function
rather than a convention. I have been there before but this time was very special as I went with Cortland Hull and Bill Diamond, both having their wonderful displays. Bill Diamond unveiled his Forrey Ackerman puppet which literally brought tears to people's eyes. One of the memorable moments; one that I will never forget, was the honor they gave Ray Meyers, the original Aurora model sculptor and at 90 years of age, he was full of energy and life. He couldn't believe just how many people his work had touched and everyone there showed their appreciation of having him there. Cortland had the screening of his new documentary of the history of the Aurora Model company and it is a must for anyone that grew up in the era even if you weren't a model maker or never owned one. It is a very important part of genre's history and when you listen to Bama give his interview in the documentary, it captivates you. That along with Zacherely and his new sidekick Gorgo, it just added the comic relief and showed that The Cool Ghoul still has it. It was an honor being a part of that. Cortland with his Witch's Dungeon and Bill Diamond's Monster TV Network is continuing to keep our genre alive folks and I can not stress enough to please support them. They do it for a love of the monsters, the films, and the actors that brought them life. It is
labor of love that which keeps us all young with the fond memories these films brought us as children; when we were frightened by sounds and shadows instead of violence and gore. Yes, they were the good old days....
